Russia may ban imports of any plant products from Turkey in 1 mo
MONTEVIDEO, Mar 30 (PRIME) -- Russia does not rule out imposing a ban on imports of any plant products from Turkey within a month, Director of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight Sergei Dankvert said on Wednesday.
“We will even be forced to introduce restrictions on supplies of any crop products (from Turkey). This may happen within a month,” Dankvert said. The service may either extend the ban gradually, “if and when (quality flaws are) detected,” or at once altogether, he said.
He also said that Turkish officials earlier used to visit Russia to negotiate disagreements over Turkish product quality but now they limit themselves to letters.
Russia banned imports of some fruit and vegetables from Turkey from January 1, which was widely viewed as part of retaliatory measures after Ankara downed a Su-24 jet in November 2015.
